Step 2: Group Trips Abroad.
Advancement in this sport requires stepping stones, not giant leaps. You have completed the first stepping stone: BHPA Club Pilot rating (one of our requirements).
Now it's time to learn about the mountains, thermalling, and XC - in that order!
1. Intro to Mountains
To go from the small grassy slopes of England to the jagged mountains, with their valley winds and katabatic flows, requires a whole new knowledge base. Register for Full Trip 1 Details >
2. Intro to Thermalling
To gain height in warm rising air and stay high, possibly near the base of the clouds, is a skill with such huge rewards it makes paragliding utterly addictive. Register for Full Trip 2 Details >
3. Intro to XC
Combining your mountain knowledge with your thermalling ability to drift downwind with your buddies and land out in the unknown. It's 'sky chess multiplayer', the next big dopamine hit after learning thermal. Register for Full Trip 3 Details >
4. XC Core
This one is for pilots who have been flying for a few years and are looking to cover some ground. It’s not just about the distance number, it’s making the most of the conditions you are dealt. Register for Full Trip 4 Details >

"Laragne was my first paragliding trip out of school, and I only had a couple of hours under my belt. I had so much fun! It’s a great way to increase your hours, and by the end of the week I’d hit my first big (>1km up) thermals! Rich, Amy and Tiger were fantastic. It’s a fantastic bridge from the structured school environment to flying by yourself."

"Laragne was a fantastic introduction to thermalling, after which I could dive into the summer conditions with more confidence, safety and understanding. The amazing team easily understood my way of learning, with a focus on practice, but always backed with the right amount of theory, either in the weather briefings or individual remarks and encouragements. The great variety of sites was extremely helpful for developing my take-off and landing skills. My personal highlight was the beautiful flights in Saint-Vincent-les-Forts, a buoyant day with a fantastic view!"

"Next week I will be on my 3rd trip with Richard to Larangne with a 4th booked for next June. I met Richard Amy and Tiger during training with Fly Sussex and every trip has been like a week away with old friends. Richard really cares about safety and his knowledge of the area is incredible. I love Amy's enthusiasm which really rubs off on everyone. Last trip I had Tigers gentle voice pop into my headphones saying you love an adventure Jim follow me and we followed a dried up river bed for a few km my first XC. Dave and Rachel are the best hosts and morning briefing is always fun and concise. Thanks everyone!"
